The memorial contains over 65 figurative images that represent lives lived from 1619 to 1781.  As the bronze wall rises, it begins to erode revealing the barest of figurative relief.  More details are revealed in the deepening images until, finally, figures struggle to break free and stand within the plaza among the memorial’s visitors.  The black patriots literally emerge into the light -- no longer forgotten or ignored.
