As part of Mrs. Ferguson’s settlement with the DAR in May 1984, the group was required to bar discrimination and identify every black soldier who served in the Revolutionary War. After 15 years, the DAR published the names of over 2,000 black soldiers and 400 native American patriots.
Maria Cole, a current African American DAR member, found her Revolutionary War ancestor in this publication and was able to join the DAR three years ago.
