Marshall E. Purnell, FAIA is Design Principal with Devrouax & Purnell, Architects Planners, P.C., founded in 1978. Marshall formerly served in the Executive Offices of The American Institute of Architects; on the faculty of the University of Maryland; and the staff of the University of Michigan. He is a Fellow of the AIA and the equivalent in the National Organization of Minority Architects where he served as President. He is currently President of the DC Chapter/AIA.
As Design Principal with D&P the firm's work includes; the DC City Museum, The New Washington Convention Center, MCI Arena, and parking garages at National Airport and Union Station. Corporate Headquarters project work includes; the Potomac Electric Power Company (PEPCO), the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation (FreddieMac), Crestar Mortgage Corporation, the National Council of Negro Women, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, and the National Medical Association. A host of private projects for office, residential, and commercial clients throughout the United States and abroad have been completed. Federal projects include work for the Navy, Corps of Engineers, Department of State, and General Services Administration. Other public sector projects have been designed for WMATA, the Washington Airport Authority, and nearly every agency within the DC Government. More than 30 million people a year live, work, play, or move through spaces designed by D&P.
