•Records of North Carolina Land Patents and Grants show that as early as 1635 some Turks were brought to the colonies as workers and laborers. Thus, the trade that developed between the Americas and Europe, Europe and North Africa, and North Africa and the Middle East provided a link that on an individual scale permitted an intermingling of peoples.
