These eighteen European surnames have the strongest connection and identification with the Croatan and Mattamuskeet Indians from Dare, Tyrrell and Hyde Counties. I researched the eighteen surnames that are listed at the The Lost Colony Center for Science and Research site. I'm sure that not every name listed is of Indian ancestry but many are the descendants of these Indians that were once living on the Atlantic coastal waters centuries ago. I hope that many will find their ancestry by exploring the tables that I have made for the years 1693 to 1850. The surnames includes; Barbour, Berry, Brooks, Buck, Caroon, Carrow, Elk, Farrow, Gibbs, Jennette, Hodges, Mayo, Padgett, Pain, Pierce, Pinkham, Squires, Whahab.
